Dear Parent / Guardian !

Your Scouting group may have given you this link to explain a little about Cubs County Camp 2022 !

  • Theme: Time Travel ! Groups will choose their own “part of time” to represent.
  • Neckerchief Design: We would like Cubs to design a logo for the Neckerchief memento for Camp. Last time we had a badge but this time Cubs will go all out ! A number of designs will be chosen and brought to the next Cub Camp meeting on April 3rd , by your Group representative.
  • Dates: Friday 10th June 2022 – Sunday 12th June 2022
  • Location : https://goo.gl/maps/8aikgWS5rzaCPF1t6
  • Hosts: Galway County Scouts & Portlick Scout Website – Camp Chief – Stephen Griffin . Stephen is a Leader with 26th Kilcoona , Headford and will work with a team of Leaders from you group and around Galway County to make it a great weekend !

Please contact your own group in the first instance if any questions.

And what better way to explain then a video ! The video below is from our 2019 Visit to Ireland’s leading Scout campsite – Portlick Scout Campsite in Athlone.

Activities

We will generally have Cubs vote for a selection of activities chosen from the Portlick Activities ( http://portlickscoutcampsite.com/activities/ ) and also those built by our Camp team.

Cost

  • Each Scouting group will have its own cost depending on different aspects , Bus hire , Van hire , Food etc.
  • There will be a set cost for Portlick Campsite with additional for Camp Neckerchief , Order of Malta Donation , Supplies costs etc
  • We will supply a base cost to groups in the coming weeks.

Gear

Each group will issue a list of gear required for camp.

Gear Advice – Label Everything

Because they are attending an event with 200 of other Cubs and misplace a piece of clothing or gear there’s a much better chance it will find its way back to them if it is clearly marked with their full name and ,Group number.

Please dont pack for your Cub

If you pack for your Cub, they won’t know what they have or where it is. Letting Cubs pack for themselves is a little trying for some parents.
Work with them instead: start with a list, lay everything out, and they can check it off as they pack.
Building self-sufficinecy is an important part of Scouting, and packing your own gear is a great way to do just that.

Help your Cub Keep Track of Their Gear

After every camping trip see that your Cub unpacks, check their gear is clean and dry,
and pack it in a plastic storage bin so it’s there for the next outing !

Lost and Found

After camp is complete , we will display Lost and Found for claiming , on this website. You will need to liaise with your group once we can co-ordinate with them
